Right all, first post here and straight in with a conundrum.
Currently prepping our 110 CSW TD5 for a west Africa run to Cape Town from the UK. We are trying to work out the best way of us carrying some extra fuel when needed and coming up at a bit of an end.
We do have the 45L inline tank in, giving us 120L total fuel capacity from the pump, however with such a heavy truck, I reckon this may leave us with little contingency is some regions, especially if we get caught somewhere with a fuel shortage en route.
There is 3 of us on the trip, with the occasional 4th person joining for a week here and there, and as such have 2 ARB Simpson roof tents and 3 surfboards up top, which mean putting a rack up there isn’t an option.
Our load space is now pretty full. We have a 60L water tank on one side, and our electronics on the other.
The single seat from the 60/40 middle row has been removed to fit our fridge, leaving the cabin quite tight as it is.
Gullwing windows have been fitted and racking built inside so side mounting isn’t a goer either, and the central bit of our load space is pretty rammed due to carrying diving, climbing and surf gear with us for 3.
We have a lifesaver 20L water carrier on the rear ladder on the passenger side, and a high mounted gas bottle on a front runner mount on the drivers leaving no space on the back end either.
Has anyone got any tips or ideas that we may have missed that will allow us to carry an extra two Jerry cans? I’ve seen a single picture of one underslung under the body to the side of a chassis, but struggling to find a mount on the market that would work for this. Has anybody tried this before and have any insight to how this may be done?
Open to all ideas at the moment. They may never get used but it’s an option I’d like to have if the fuel situation changes along our route.
Many thanks
James
