Delamination of fiberglass RTT......how to repair?

I have a 2008 AH Maggi Extreme RTT that I purchased used last summer.

Yesterday while putting a coat of wax on the tent, I noticed an area of delamination (I assume) on the top of the tent. The area is forward of the rack and approx 12" x 8" in size.

So my questions:

Has anyone experienced this on their RTT?

How do I repair?

Is the headliner (interior) removable to access the inner layer of fiberglass?

Any help will be much appreciated,

Nate

Grind it down, lay up new fiberglass. If you search on YouTube you will find a bunch of videos on fiberglass repair on sailboat hulls... Same process. But if you post pics we can probably give more specific guidance.

Autohome fabrics should be treated with 303 products for waterproofing and cleaning. Wax is used on the polycotton fabrics from Eezi Awn.

Nate, I'd like to see a picture. What you may be seeing is a delamination of the fiberglass, gelcoat layer. The fiberglass is the structure and will flex and the gelcoat is a thick paint to protect the structural layers from the sun (also it looks nice). The gelcoat is laid down first in the mold and sometimes there will be small voids or bubbles where the fiberglass resin hasn't flowed. Gelcoat doesn't flex as much as the fiberglass so it will crack, even chip especially if there isn't a good bond, out but that is only cosmetic. The serious structural delimitations that you hear of with fiberglass boats (osmosis) is due to exposure to water. AutoHome appears to use a vacuum method to make sure the glass fiber cloth has the proper resin mix, pretty much current state of the art.

Martyn,

Thanks for your reply. I should have been more specific. I was putting wax on the hard shell of my Maggi....not the tent fabric.
