Diesel heater auxiliary tank

Hi all. I was tired of the diesel smell in my tool box and wanted to add a bit more capacity for winter trips. I came up with a pretty clean install idea using a diesel roto can.

I used a high quality name brand pickup tube from ebay. Because of the center boss in the tank I had to do a two piece pickup tube so I put a slight flare on the ends of the tube. Use a piece of string or welding wire to pull the pickup up through the hole.

I used a section of 5mm stainless line from mcmaster.

Is the section of hose inside (submerged) in the tank?

Yes. I think it didn't quite make the bottom. Using a soft line or three pieces of hard line would have done it. It's hard to get it in and snake it around the boss in the center. The cheapo tube type siphon tube with the plate that screws in might work better but maybe leak as well.

Did you find a self venting cap or do you manually open the vent?

I'm going with the cap twist for now. It ratchets with the lock ring and doesnt take much to vent. I thought of running a vent line but it's an easy deal to just twist it a little for the couple times a year I'll use it.

I'm keeping the pour spout as well. Just in case I need to feed the dodge.

That's a nice unit. That would be a good solution too. Although a full 5er would take me years to get through.
