Disco 1 water ingress

Perpetual Transient
Hey guys, was noticing earlier this month that I was getting some water dripping in from under the dashboard on the driver's side when driving in heavy rains. Not sure if it is common or not but wanted to start off the easy way and seeing if the gurus here might have some suggestions for way to start looking to track down the source.

Also, on the back door, I get water dripping in too when either washing the truck or after it has sat in the rain. The door seal appears to be in good shape around the door and I am wondering if it is a door alignment issue. It also seems to be causing dust to get in the back pretty easy too. Looking to make the vehicle a bit more water tight! Any help is appreciated.

sunroofs or do you have an SD? If you have sunroofs, I'd suspect clogged drains up top, first.

After that, I'd be suspect of the windshield seal myself. check out the corners and the top - UV exposure causes the rubber seal to shrink and pull away. a glass shop would be the best place to take it; just tell them you need a new seal and have them order one and schedule an appt.

I need to do my sunroof drain tubes soon as well :(.

Unfortunately you have to pull the headliner from what I've read.

On the back, I'd check the alignment on the door hinges. It could be that the weight of the spare tire has tilted the bottom of the door in, and the top of the door away from the seal. I had that happen once, and there were some pretty clear witness marks where the water was rolling in through the seal.

IIRC, you can just loosen up the 6 bolts (3 top, 3 bottom) where the hinge mounts on the vehicle frame and adjust from there.

lost, but making time
Hi Kristian,

I think that's your windshield seal that's the problem - iirc, it's likely a little corrosion in there under the seal that's promoting the leaking under the dash. I ended up getting help from a mobile glass shop that specializes in Rovers. As for the rear door, agree that it's readjusting the alignment that will likely help cure that issue. You might want to check to see if the hinges are seizing, as well. They are not too expensive to replace and white lithium grease spray was the best solution found for those hinges and the rear door latch, too. Hope this helps.

Great info guys and it gives me a place to start. Yes it has th e sunroofs. I had the windshield replaced last winter by a mobile glass outfit so that likely is part of the problem. Perhaps they didn't install the seal properly. As far as the back door, there are mqrks by the latch that indicate it is some now out of alignment but it didn't seem to be sagging, the explanation of it hanging out at the top seems like it could definitely be the culprit. Thanks Nathan. I am out of town for another week but will look into these suggestions when I get home.
I figure I might as well check the drains as well.

Probably.

I repaired mine with a Permatex windshield seal repair product. Like a really runny silicone that is supposed to follow the path of the water. Seems to have worked.
