So our buddy glen turned 30 on friday,we had a trip planned out of course. It has been getting a little bit hotter lately so we decided to head to the mountains instead of the desert. We took off from simi valley around 6:30 Friday night and headed north. The plan was to start in Big Pine just south of Bishop, we filled up in Big Pine then hit highway 168 to Papoose Flats, a few miles up the highway we hit dirt. This trip had been planned for awhile now,but of course a last minute storm blew in and made it interesting.
Papoose Flats is about 7000-9000 ft in elevation, rocky terrain with a lot of off camber sections. 4x4 RECOMMENDED! haha
We rolled into camp at 2am, trying to set up in camp in the snow, this is what we woke up to!

then we started to climb a bit more and the views just kept getting better and better.

looking down twards lone pine.
We hit badger flats on the way out to Reward mine on Mazourka canyon

The terrain changed quickly into desert even though we were in Owens valley. We found some old mines along the way.

Went a few more miles south twards Reward mine, Melissa and I had been there before but this time with a bigger group we drove all the way in, one on the coolest things I have ever done.

The trail up was a little rocky but here is a shot going down.

After having lunch at Reward mine we headed across the Owens river into Lone Pine for some more Ice and beer. Camp for Saturday night was at alabama hills, located at the base of MT Whitney, is a small range of hills and rock formations that are technically a part of the Sierra Nevadas

MT Whitney off in the distance
Had a great night of drinking, eating, and campfire games.
In the morning we did some exploring around the area found some of the famous formations , but we definitely need to go back.

Of course we had to take an archie!

Found a friend on the way out. We decided to take highway home Sunday, so we could spend some time with our mothers

We decided to break up the drive home and make one more pit stop at Fossil Falls. It's a great place that's easily accessible from the highway and worth the stop. A very unique gelogical feature located in the Cost mountains, volcanic activity in the area combined with melt water from the Sierra Nevadas caused the creation of the falls

All in all awesome trip, great way to celebrate a buddys birthday,
only have a couple small issues I got a flat because I rushed airing down and didn't tighten my core all the way, just pumped it up. One buddy got a small dent in his rocker and a window tint ticket on the way home. More photos will be coming on instagram @bluedog_co
