Do you relocate your license plate?

I'm a newbie to slide in campers. My slide in is a Palomino Bronco 1500 from 1997. It overhangs the back a bit, but doesn't cover up my factory license plate location. I did notice there was a location on the back of the camper for a license plate. There's a light, but nothing else and it's obvious nobody have ever mounted a plate there.

I'm just curious if people do that, or if it varies from state to state...in my state, it's just considered cargo. It's possible relocating the plate might technically be wrong.

I believe some states require a separate tag for the truck camper.

North Carolina is a single-tag state, and I have mine on the truck camper.

I'd think there's no need if your plate is clearly readable where it is. I moved mine because I use a cargo rack attached to the trailer hitch and that completely blocks the plate when mounted at standard location.

WAshington State requires a truck camper license plate in addition to the pickup (vehicle) license.
A policeman in Texas followed me into a parking lot to ask why I was displaying 2 separate license plates on the rear of my pickup.
I explained it was required in WA, and is used to enforce sales tax law in the state (on campers), plus they get fees each year for plate/registration on the camper.
He shook his head, and commented he had never heard of such a thing....
He was very nice about it, just didn't understand it.

Yeah NC doesn't treat truck campers as part of the vehicle, so you don't get assessed for the value of the camper.
