drivers overhead shelf/console

Im thinking of putting a small overhead shelf above the windshield. Put stuff like Maps, registration, CB radio. And not sure what else. Anyone have one? What would you put up there?

I've wanted to do the same, maybe a phone charging station too. Interested to see what you do.

Seems like a good idea. I've got no glove box or console so storage is at a premium up front.

2-3 years back there was a thread on an overhead console project. Take a look back at the toolman build thread. Turned out really well and I removed my headliner to insulate and build one. It's been out ever since.

Dang, that would have been perfect. They don't make an econoline version before 1998!

I had one in an '82 E250

It was nice to have things at hand

The bad part was the sun visors had to be remounted to the bottom of the shelf. This intruded in my field of vision

After a couple of months I removed the shelf

Build yourself one. I looked at a few on Sportsmobiles and got my idea. Pics at top of second page. Anyway, after I sold the van pictured I picked up a used SMB that already had one. They're priceless to me. I put all cords, chargers, papers, etc in it and my wife loves that she can hide her purse (not a big one thankfully) on her side. Also, this type is easier to mount a power point, switches or even a radio or CB in.
