Drone Adventure Van VIDEO - I Built my Dream Van!

Hello All,

After 20+ years of building and flying drones I decided to somewhat retire and build a mobile drone adventure/surveillance van that i can travel the country and share amazing locations that others would not be able to visit.

My biggest goal was for me to fly the drone from inside the vehicle, safe and secure, away from the elements. Below is a short video of drone operation.

Ill be posting a "van tour" and "build" video soon...
I hope you enjoy

This is just too cool! Love the big screen to fly it. And the motorized antenna is neat.......Tell us more about the set up.

Flying from inside the van, how do you get around the visual line of sight requirements? Do you have a waiver?

regardless of how i operate the drone it is always within visual line of sight. except for that time i went to Spain and filmed the "running of the bulls" with my drone. But that as before they knew what drones were and the regulations were not in place.

You're kidding ....Right! You need some kind of government permission for this? Lord help us! If it's fun, its regulated and ultimately made not fun!

The FAA has rules for commercial drone operators or people making any money from their drone videos. Included in that are keeping visual line of site of the drone while flying, not going above 400 feet, etc etc. If you want to do those things there are avenues to get waivers or authorizations to do so. The FAA's reasoning for this is that drones fly in the Nations NAS (national air space) where manned aircraft like to fly and want to keep drones and manned aircraft separated for obvious reasons.

There are probably better forums to debate this but I for one enjoyed the OP's video. I am a commercial drone operator and make good money at it. If the FAA cannot police what is going on I am certainly not going to do so.

Fly On!

Unfortunately it's no joke. And in 3-5 years it may get, much, much worse. Mostly due to ignorance on many levels. If current proposals go into as effect as stated, the hobby of RC flying and "drones" will become very highly regulated and more inaccessible for everyone.

I'm "freshly minted" so to speak but I am also a licensed commercial drone operator. I'd like to see the industry thrive and be able to make a career in it.

Not trying to be the police, just stimulate an educational discussion perhaps.

A lot of recreational and some commercial drone pilots are breaking the law on a regular basis. It's not necessary and could result in the FAA and local LE basically shutting everyone down completely in a legal reaction that just swings too far in the other direction.

OP, Looks like a very cool van - curious, why did you motorize the landing pad to extend off to the side?

So he could maintain line of sight!!! :) Only kidding, I was wondering the same thing. My guess is that he flies larger drones off of the roof.
