Dummy here, trying to build a M416

Background:
A few years back I picked up a M416 with plans to build an expedition trailer taking the RTT off the Tacoma and putting it on the trailer. While I can turn a wrench, I don't have access to a welder. Initial plan was to have a flip top lip, but then access to below would is limited. Building on top of the deck raises the center of gravity and increased fuel cost when pulling on the highway. The trailer is solid and pulls straight, but it is no show piece.

Seeking Advice?
Thought is to have a pull out kitchen and I have 48" long slides already. Thought is to use a mix of wood and 80/20 framing a box approximately 2 foot tall on top of the trailer lip. Access to the trailer bed would be great hauling gear and water tank. I also have some 1.5" rectangular tubing that I cut length wise and could perhaps use if I could figure out why it bent after cutting.

Currently, I'm rewiring the trailer, to include the blackout light, as the prior owner die some questionable work.

Concerns:
I'm worried that If I build a box on top of the trailer lip that a bump in the road (or off road) could sever the trailer and upper build. Am I over thinking this?

If it helps I'm located in ABQ NM

There is a lot to unpack in those questions:

1) would a rooftop tent sit on top of your 24” trailer lid box, or is this cargo cover only?

2) how would you attach this box? I think there are many ways to attach this box without it breaking off depending on what it is made of

3) I’m curious of what you mean when you say your metal bent when you cut it. How did you cut it. Can you describe further?

On edit... I missed that you cut lengthwise. It makes sense now

Ah, that makes sense. I made an incorrect assumption with hot rolled tubing...

1. Plan is for the RTT to rest on top of the trailer lid box
2. Attaching (If the tubing worked then drilled and screwed into the trailer. With 80/20, have an upper and lower box (inset into the trailer, also bolted in.)

Attached is a quick sketch of a hinged concept (open position) without gas assist struts and lockin supports when using the tent for simplicity. Folded I'd have alignment pins that lock down as well.

Box concept is effectively the same, but just a box with hinged doors each side.
