Hey guys,

Looking as swap out the shocks & front coils on my 97 5.4L Clubwagon Camper. I'd like to upgrade the front shocks to Bilsteins or Fox but I am not sure the best model and correct length from my research. Anyone have a recommendation for the specific shock models to go with my coils and adjustable caster/camber bushings? Thanks.

When I lifted the front of my 2010 E350 2" I had to use longer front shocks. Ended up using these:

These will work to on a 2" front lift:

On the rear I use these and they add about 1" of lift:

On my 2000 E150 I used the CC880 and it lifted a couple of inches. Getting the right Camber was almost impossible even with 3deg. multi adjustment cams. I tried the the CC880S in my 2010 E350 and change them to CC880. I think the CCC880S on the 5.4 will give you more lift than what you can adjust without bending the arms.

Here is a discussion about the set up I did on the old E150. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1372738-new-sdtrucksprings-on-e150-review-2.html

Shocks on that configuration: Front Bilstein and Rear

I wish this subject was more cut and dry. In my research I’ve seen about 3-4 different bilstein part numbers discussed, not to mention other brands. Bilstein really just needs to come out with a shock that is listed for up to 2.5” lift like they do with other vehicles.

Vans are a niche market in the US. Insane people doing weird things to those vans are a niche within a niche. Do not expect a lot of resources dedicated to modified vans. I am extremely thankful to forums like this.

I can agree to this. Raul, based on what I’m seeing, what you used on your 150 and 350 build as far as shocks is the stock size shock in B6 comfort series. Yet you have at least 1-3 inches of lift in both configurations. I’m having a difficult time finding the specs on those specific shocks, but can go to Monroe and find lengths on their application. Maybe an email to bilstein is in order.

I used Bilstein for E350 and RVs on the 2000 E150. On the 4x4 E350 I am using FOX 2.0 from U-Joint. On both I ended using CC880 springs.

So I compared these two shocks to Monroe’s OESpectrum (OEM equivalents) and these provide no additional travel.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I guess I'm still a bit confused on what to do here. @Raul I'm leaning towards your set up with the CC880 regulars and those RV B6 Bilsteins you recommended. You can confirm it worked to lift your E-150? Thanks!

The other option would be just go for a lift block and spacer kit. i found one for like $300 at Fordpartsone.com (I think its the old maxxlift). Anyone gone that route before? Thanks.

I probably got about 1.5" to 2.0" of lift with those springs form the worn out OEMs. In combination with the new rear leaf springs and shock, the handling was quite good. "Sports car" firm but no "delivery truck" harsh.

Rad! I'll post pics when installed. What did you do for rear? For rear, I was thinking SDtrucksprings 4x1 superduty E-150 leafs. I will probably needs some longer u-bolts. Will the other stock hardware and shackles fit?

It is all in the link I posted. I think those are the leaves I used. I was able to re-use everything but the U-Bolts. In general, you do not want to re-use U-bolts

I used those. They do fit but good luck finding an alignment shop willing to work with them. I ended eyeballing my alignment, good road manners but some outer shoulder wear.

I found emailing Bilstein was useful. They recommended HD vs the comfort option for my rig. I bought comfort from a forum member for the front... they are 100x better than the originals, but if I was buying them over I’d do HD like the rear, and a tad longer to pair with the 880s (even with a 7.3 they sit higher than fairly new stock coils).
