E-van DRLs have to go

I've hated DRLs since I first saw them. And unfortunately, my van has them. But it's just been mildly annoying until now.

My headlights have always been sub-par and I finally decided to fix them. Hella housings with H4 bulbs and a relay harness so they get power straight from the battery. Downside is they use the existing headlight wiring as the switch... so now instead of the DRLs running at partial power, they low beams are always on. :coffee:

So some googlage turns up a thread here. This post in particular: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/129544-Bike-Hauling-Creeper-Van?p=1631914#post1631914

But its in reference to an 09.

Are the 2003s the same way?

I may have missed something here .... is there something in the stock wiring that is keeping my damn headlights from being at a minimum, REASONABLY bright? I also put in hellas and relays off the battery but still get crap for light on low beams. High beams are better, but not great.

Inquiring minds!

The 80/100W bulbs probably didn't hurt.

seriously though, the factory wiring only trigger relay. With the harness, there is nothing to prevent the bulbs from geting full voltage. unless you used a crappy harness with undersized wires, then you're waiting for a fire.

And use a good ground point.
