E350 DIY lift in an afternoon.

Read for details on my home brew coils-spacers...

I recently picked up a 97 7.3 psd e350 cargo van to make into a campermobile! It had totaled a prius prior to me buying it, so it was ugly and cheap, and after a little rhinoplasty, plus an offroad bumper, it is now looking quite proper.

It suffered from the stock econoline van nose dive stance, so after class yesterday I decided to do something about this: Coil spacers!

Yes, I know one can buy coil spacers, (eg. http://maxx-lift.com/products/E250-E350-2WD-LEVELING-KIT-2-INCH.html ) but those products require a longer kingpin bolt. Most people who buy the kits with bolts purchase their own own higher strength bolts anyway. By the time you pay for extra bolts, tax and shipping, it will run you about 150 bucks, and then you have none of the fun of making something or procrastinating doing school work.

Using scrap metal, a welder, and a lathe, these took about an hour to make. One of the design features is the compatibility with the stock kingpin bolt.

The height of the spacer is 1.25 inches and it yields about two inches of lift. The perfect amount to level the van.

Done and happy, for free! Although I will need to adjust the caster a bit.

Don't worry, my sandals are OSHA approved.

Now, what will the next project be....? Sleep, study, work, roof vent, sleeping setup in the back?
