Engine Oil Drain Valves

I was wondering if any of you have experience with engine oil drain valves. I am looking into the Fumoto valve and wondering if this was a good idea or not. I like the fact that an oil change would require no tools, and be clean. But I am worried about the durability of it. Any experience or advice?

Well as funny as this sounds I have been using the frame version of that for about 2 years on all my rides. Not as simple as that since I have to crawl under and unscrew a cap and them screw on the drain tube but same basic effect. I have had no problems and it sems to work good.

i have been using the Fram SureDrain as well, it works great. fairly low profile and robust solid brass construction, comes with brass cap to protect the threads and valve. i picked mine up at Vatozone for like $9...

Are you using the Fram like +d, or the Fumoto? Or other?

To Wil,

I never trusted this type product, unless there was a cap in place, too. Of course, then you're back to using tools, but I just do not trust these valves. I don't have a single reason not too, though. No firsthand reports. In other words, I could be swayed fairly easily...

In principle, I like the idea, and will probably try one eventually. I would think this would go well with a remote filter kit, too. Not to Hijack, but anyone using one on a 2.7? (OK to PM to keep the thread clean.)

I've been using the Fumoto Oil Drain Valve on my Tacoma for 18 months (30k miles) and haven't had any problems with it. My only complaint is that the oil doesn't drain out as fast with the hose/valve as it did with the drain plug - just means I crawl around under the truck for a few more minutes while the oil drains and I can't be done in 15 min or less.

I've never trusted these devices. Seems like one more possible point of failure. Taking a ratchet to the drain plug isn't a big deal for me.

I'm using the Fram one on my '01 Tacoma with 2.7

I've had it on there for about 50,000 miles now. No leaks, works great.

Question for those using the Fram hose setup on a 3.4 Tacoma... do you have to pull the skidplate, or can you get it to drain cleanly with the hose? I can't remember how the skidplate is setup (I destroyed my stock skid 50k ago and havn't run ones since)

On the 2.7L, the hose and fitting work perfectly fine with the stock skdplate. No need to remove or modify anything.
