Expedition build platform

I'm new to off-roading, but I know what I would like to do. I am looking to build an expedition type vehicle with the capability to run trails like Rubicon and other legendary trails. Important factors to me are 1. the ability to comfortably seat my family of four. 2. Good aftermarket support. 3. Decent gas mileage. I have heard many good things about the Fzj80, but with a straight six gas mileage stinks. If there is a vehicle out there with all the positives of the 80, but with mileage in the low 20's that would be awesome.

I'm reasonably certain there's not a stock vehicle on the market today capable of running the entire Rubicon Trail..

Portions perhaps, but do not expect a very warm welcome when you start holding up the rock crawler crowd for hours when you have to winch over all of the big obstacles.

Depending on the order of importance.. Jeep Rubicon 4dr JK and Toyota Tacoma Club Cab are the first two that come to mind.. But I don't think you're gonna see much above 20mpg, if that, in an outfitted expedition rig.

Thank you for the advise. I will have to look into those vehicles. I may be getting in over my head by expecting a vehicle capable of the rubicon, but I would like a rig with good off-road manners as well as being able to get me there and back. As of right now I don't have the budget for a tow rig, and a trail rig too.:(

You seek what we all seek..

The hardest part of finding what you're looking for is going to be decent fuel mileage.. Most of the folks I know are hovering about 13 - 15 mpg..

You should go to the library and check out which expeditions took place during the westward movement.

Do you have a link to the library. I searched through this forum with no luck, then did a forum search for westward movement with no luck as well. Your help is greatly appreciated.
