Expedition Camper Floor Insulation?

Hey Guys,

I am building an expedition camper from a modern military shelter (build thread soon!), but I am stuck on what to do for floor insulation. The floor is just 1/4" Aluminum, so its a little chilly for the feet! I am going to put down some sort of plank flooring, probably a vinyl type for durability. I am looking for ideas for what to use for insulation under the floor, it needs to give a good base for the flooring. Any ideas?

How much room do you have to work with building up the floor and what is the insulation requirement? With vinyl I'd suggest underlayment & plywood. Using firing strips like floor joists will give you an air gap and space for foam board.

you'll want to intoduce a thermal break between anything that touches the floor and extends to the living space. same on the walls & ceiling.

the company that sells Bed Rug brand truck bed liners has a carpet with insulated padding below it avail. in an uncut version. Its not on their website, i called on a whim to see if they offered an uncut, unribbed 3/4" raw rug product. they do.
I purchased a bunch of it to line the floor of my alum. floored toyhauler. It has worked VERY well. Warm and soft to the foot, very easy and lightweight to remove for cleaning, very durable and easy to cut to shape.
$12 shipped/foot for 6' wide section, 3/4" thick.

VERY good solution, although not cheap Wedi board, like cement board durability with foam sandwiched between, comes in various thickness. EXCELLENT excellent product, I will likely try to at least use it on my floor. I found some samples at a local tile shop (small drops) and was like what the #$$^%^ is this cool stuff. I have several Army HMVee coms bodies for "camping" retros as well.
