Exterior Locks Roof Rack security

I know there has to be a post somewhere on here but im just not finding it. Ive got a highlift on my roof rack and will probably have some other goodies up there soon. What do you guys use to keep your stuff from getting stolen that out in the open. are there any trick solutions and what kind of pad locks or something similar do you recommend. I need something that is going to stand up to the weather and be able to sit for months at a time without having to unlock it.

I just use a cable lock (like for bikes) and string it through everything on the roof rack.
