Fab Shop in Oklahoma

I have a 1994 Toy Reg Cab 4x4 and am wanting to turn it into an expedition vehicle. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good shop in Oklahoma that could do the build. I am looking for a new engine and everything in between. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum

Of course it would help to know where you live. There is a strong off-road community in Tulsa, as well as OKC.

And, there are talented craftsmen/mechanics scattered all over the smaller farming communities that would love to get their feet wet on something just a little different.

Tell us more, and folks can chime in with confidence.

There are several off-road shops in Tulsa. I only have experience with Sam's Off-Road. They have been in business for over 20 years. They have been doing work for me since 1991. Sam's current run around town vehicle is a 1980 or 81 Toyota pickup. They helped me put a chevy 4.3 in my Toyota many years ago. I know they installed a 4.3 in a Toyota for another guy a couple years back. They can do just about anything you want to a vehicle.

Depending on what you mean by fab work, this is a guy in Tulsa that does some good work on the side:

It's pretty much all tube, but he can make some good stuff.

Also in Tulsa, aside from Sam's Off Road, there is also Harmon 4x4. I don't know enough about Sam's or Harmon to comment on either, one way or the other.

In OKC, there is 4 Wheel Parts (hehehe), Custom Off Road Equipment, and Bob Suplee 4 Wheel Drive.

My swap was back in 96 or 97 time frame. I did all the work myself but bought all the parts from Sam's. I have done 3 other chevy 350 swaps. In all 4 case I planed on 5K and went over. It can be done cheaper. You have to find your own balance between your time and your money. If you have the money, take it some place to have it done. You come back, write them a check and drive off with a big smile on your face. If you have more time than money, you take short cuts. You can do things like build your own motor mounts and use the factory wiring harness. Those 2 thing alone can save you 6 to 8 hundred dollars but take you many days to do yourself.

welcome to ExPo! (officially, now that made your first post! :sombrero:)

I live in Edmond and drive an '04 XtraCab 4x4. There's a few 'off-road' shops around, but there aren't any overland outfitter shops in the state that I know of. However, for custom fabrication work (near Oklahoma City, Draper Lake), I highly recommend Custom 4x4 Fabrications. I've been doing business with them for a few years now and their work is exceptional.

If you have any questions or you'd like to meet-up sometime, give me a shout! Since we both have Tacos, I might be able to help.

Also, I guess this may be obvious, but it is worth looking into regular independent repair shops for some work, like general mechanical or even light fab.

Case in point - one off road shop quoted me 325 to put in the front leveling kit on my Dakota. My regular mechanic said, "It's just the same as remove/reinstall the front coilover, so about 90 minutes so let's say $100-ish bucks plus $60 for the alignment."

Guess who gets the business? :)

And it's your build, so you can ignore me, but I like being a devil's advocate... so any consideration of a 4bt (like those in the surplus Frito Lay vans) instead of the GM V6? I know the gasser would be simpler and easier to acquire, but diesels are sooo cool!

Glad to see some other guys from Oklahoma on here. I drive a stock Jeep LJ so I wouldn't be help on the fab shop. Just wanted to say hello and welcome.

If you want a good (at least for me it has been) Toyota salvage in Tulsa, Budget Auto Salvage in Tulsa (918-234-3141) has given me a lot of good deals on parts, cash work wonders....

Have you looked at doing the 3.4l Toyota swap, see here for many examples:

Depending on your truck's initial set up it may be less work than a 4.3. I am pretty pleased with my 3.4 swap.
