Fab Work help In CO

I have always thought about doing this and now I have a pint size 3rd person to sleep it's making sense to give it a go. Anyway, I have this Leer Journeyman aluminum topper that I would like to clam shell like a Doormobile to the side. I am torn if I should flip it all the way 180* or just 90*. 90* would be a lot easier to make the fabric sides. I have a source for getting the fabric sewn and I manufacture clothing so I have some ideas on the fabric, but no ideas on a fab shop to reinforce and hinge the aluminum top. Any Ideas? I'm around the western slope of colorado. Does anyone out there want to dive in or know someone that would fit the bill?

Where are you at? I am in the Durango area, I would be more than willing to help you come up with some ideas.

Thanks to both of you. Metcalf, I'm in the Aspen/Glenwood area. I'd defiantly like to kick around some ideas. My 1st thoughts are to use a vertical overlapping seam/seal. If possible I would like to have the lower seam rolled in so the top would simply seal over using the existing materials. An internal frame for both sides would need to be created with the main challenge being the frame around the top of the rear door. It's a little tight for space right there.

Might want to talk to All Metals (243-6310) in Grand Junction, they have done some custom work for me that I have been happy with.

Please keep us UTD on your build, I am interested in doing something like this as well. I love pics!

Depending on how much the fabrication and sewing is going to cost you, you may want to look into a wildernest. It is a well proven system to do what you want to do.

If you do end up building this, one recommendation would be to look into waterproof/breathable fabric. For camping in winter (even in bone dry CO) less moisture is always better!
