Family gift from Canada

So i am most likely getting a gift from my family in Canada, a new expo rig!! I have three options right now. All are deisel. Only issue is the 70series will have to be registered as a 'farm truck'. What would you do and why? Any other options you might know of? please give your input, Thanks and keep exploring
1) Isuzu Bighorn
2) Mitsubishi Pajero
3) Toyota 70 series- dont know if a 4door is available

Ummm 3 and try and work around the farm truck classification. Or have them register it there and you drive it here....?

Imported 80-series diesel Landcruisers are legal up here as long as they are 15+ years old. There's lot that have been brought in from Japan over the last few years.
Check to see if you could have them register and title it in Canada, whatever province they live in.
I could see this being a bit of a headache if the po-po start hassling you and you may be forced to send the vehicle back or pay a fine. There are legal loopholes that you can try.

All the import stuff is worked out. I got a 91 trooper from Canada back in 1996 the same way. My brother in-law imports and exports like crazy and worked out the 'family plan' long a go.
- The only way I would do the 70 series would be a 4door. i would take a troopie too but they are still rather expensive. I think its because they are more rare in north america.
- The 80 series are a little plush for the amount of dirt I keep on my person at any given time.

So, that a couple for the land cruisers,.. What no Trooper love?

I have a feeling if the owner has their "permanent" address listed in heir home province, and their vehicle licensed to that address, they could just fly home, pay the registration fee every year, or every 2nd year, and they'd be relatively legal.
I know as a Canadian citizen, there was always laws governing your "visitation" period on US soil, and it had to be no more than 6 month stretches before you had to spend some time in Canada.
I have no idea what the provincial rules are regarding vehicles.
I have to get a sticker for my wife's car, I'll ask when I'm at the registry office tomorrow.

Oh and the farm truck option is not that bad unless I get pulled over in a state other than North Dakota. But just driving around the plate look the same, same stickers, etc.

The Pajero will be RHD. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of. Depending on which diesel you got, parts availability wouldn't be an issue with the Mits: body/susp is found on the US Montero, smaller version of the diesel was imported to the US in the 80s, and uses the same filters etc.

No not exactly my wife entire family is from the great north. Yes most are old and they stay longer than 6 mo. The car should be able to hang out here for some reason or another, hell you could be borrowing it, and why are you getting pulled over? Jimmy Buffet isn't in North Dakota is he?

I speed alittle sometimes, got stopped for going too slow before and there was not another car on the road. Buffet in NoDak? dont believe so.

Talk with the great white north today and seems the best prices will be on the troopers! Think that will be the way to go.

Registering a vehicle in Ontario for farm use:
(Farm plates have reduced fees and are subject to certain restrictions.

Use of farm plates
Farm plated trucks and towed trailers may be used for the transportation of farm products, commodities, supplies, equipment, building and maintenance items owned by the farmer. Items include the trucking of gravel, rocks, sand and lumber to a farm for use on the farm.
A farmer may truck the same items for another farmer anytime during the year provided the trucking is done for free. A farmer may only charge another farmer for trucking these items during the months of September, October and November.
Farm products do not include products preserved by freezing, pickling, cooking, smoking or curing, other than cured tobacco leaves.
Farm plated trucks and towed trailers may also be used for the farmer's personal transportation and use, including the movement of personal effects, such as household and hobby effects, recreational and pleasure use. This personal privilege only extends to the person or persons who actually own the farm. This privilege does not extend to family members, employees or other persons.)
From my understanding small trucks are primarily plated for farm to save on annual renewal and are exempt from emmisions testing. Only the plates are registered for farm use not the vehicle.

I would go the 70 series route. there is a nice PZJ77 in vancouver for sale. its actually posted in here for sale. electric lockers front and rear.
