PC Magazine editors returned to the field this Spring to test the speed and reliability of service provided by the major cell phone companies. The clear winner this year is AT&T, which topped the speed tests for LTE in metropolitan areas around the country.
Verizon Wireless gets the nod for its broad LTE coverage in suburban and rural areas. Fully 95% of Verizon's service areas have access to LTE. AT&T is concentrating on metropolitan areas first, as it deploys LTE.
Special mention goes to T-Mobile for posting the fastest 3G times in all regions. Typical T-Mobile 3G speeds are half as fast as Verizon and AT&T's LTE speed. T-Mobile is starting to deploy LTE service, but it's far behind Verizon and AT&T.
