Feasible to move aluminum rails on RTT?

Hey guys, I just got some new mounts to use on my CVT tent (tired of how high up it sits on the Thule Crossbars) and they're too wide to reach the aluminum rails on my tent.

Is the mounting of the rails as simple as it looks? A couple of holes drilled through the floor? Or is there something inside of the floor that I cannot see, that acts to reinforces the mounting points?

My intent, if given the go-ahead, is to move the aluminum rails out a couple of inches to reach my new mounts.

I have contacted CVT (recently) and have not yet gotten a response. Figured someone here may have the answer!

The tent floor has a structural aluminum frame under the skin that you can't see. The mounting holes are drilled through that frame for the greatest strength. I'd avoid moving them out if I were you. Can you post pics of your dilemma?

I cannot, but I could draw a picture =) Also- is there a reason that I couldn't just drill through the frame myself...?

Ahh, I see the problem. You could drill through the frame, but that kind of depends on something. If I recall, the internal frames look like this:

You can move the rails outward if they are bolted to the Y frame bars. If they are bolted to the X frame bars, it could make it more difficult. My best advice is to open the tent and take the mattress out. The skin is pretty thin on the floor, so you an feel where the frame goes. My Mt. Shasta was actually full of dents from my knees crawling around in the tent. That's how I know there's a frame there.

Thanks for that diagram =)

Yeah I used the ol' knocking to find a stud trick and found the frame pretty quick... To be 100% sure I drilled an exploratory hole and found that I was indeed inside of the frame. Move all the bolts 2" out along the y-axis and was able to install everything justtt fine.

I'll have to give Bobby a call about getting 4 of those plugs that came in the holes... I imagine he has some laying around the warehouse.

Thanks again!
