Finally - a Trail Test

I finally took my trailer out on the trail today for a little test run. It did great, it will definitely go anywhere my truck will!

I attempted the trail that goes through the pass in the Sawtooths. I have made it through there fine in an unladen truck. Pulling a trailer was a completely different story.

The final climb to the saddle is very steep, and very loose. My truck eventually lost traction, and after a few more attempts, I decided to turn back. But the trailer never flinched!

I don't plan on taking the trailer through anything too extreme, but its nice to know it can take it. Here are a couple of action photos:

How difficult is it to back up on the trail?

It was a bit tricky! Fortunately, there was a wide spot not far downhill from where forward progress ceased. At one point, the two of us had to get out and physically move the trailer to one side a little, but it worked.

Wow! Great looking trailer and a great test too. Out of curiousity - are you running electric brakes? I see the connection between the truck and trailer and there are floods on your trailer but I didn't see marker/turn lights on the trailer.

Funny thing is, the flood lights aren't even hooked up right now. And it has electric brakes, but they aren't hooked up yet either. The tail lights are right below the flood lights.

Ya, short trailers are hard to back up. That looks pretty heavy duty though, and keeps your gear high enough for water crossings. It doesn't look like it would tip over easily either.

Nice looking trailer. Beefy!

The pics make me miss the Sawtooths... I spent a lot of time in that range when I was younger.
