First time LC 100 buyer

I'm looking for an LC or LX470. My preference is an '06 for the additional hp. Unfortunately my budget, had me hoping to find a nice '03 plus for the 5 speed trans. My question is about an'06 that cropped up well within my budget. It's a 2 owner that's actually been in the same family. The mileage is 245k, and their asking $8,000. I know the maintenance is a major factor, but I'm concerned that the mileage my be just too high for me to get much life out of it. Opinions?

Ok, more info. It has AHC. The rear accumulators have been replaced, and fluid changed. Tires 75%, exhaust solid, and chassis is fairly rust free (surface only). Brakes are in good working order. Timing belt, and water pump done at 200k. That's what I've got so far. I hope that helps me to get some informed advice.

It really depends on your long term plans and usage for it, but I think that's a very decent price and would drive it as a DD without hesitation. I personally wouldn't buy it as a platform to build for an around the world expo platform, but for an every day truck that you use occasionally off road it sounds great.

Thanks. I got more pictures and info. Body is decent bumpers are scraped up, but I would paint them anyway. Underside of the chassis looks really clean, exhaust is solid. Tires are some sort of Michelin light truck/ all season. They have quite a bit of life yet. Interior looks surprisingly good for the mileage. The drivers seat isn't torn. It's cracked, but that's to be expected. The only issue I see that needs to be addressed is some rustaround the rear hatch glass. Is that a common problem? The only thing I'm not liking is it's white. Not my first choice, but I'll live if the rest checks out.

My plans are DD and some light towing (miata, and an RZR) nothing too long distance. There's an off road park close that has an ATV side, and a off road side. I figure I can haul the RZR out for my kid ,and go play too.

The mileage is not the limiting factor to how much time/miles you will get out of it.
The limiting factor is the rust. It will never stop and will make any repairs of the
undercarriage very difficult/expensive. If you are planning to keep it a few years and just use it
as is it sounds like a reasonable purchase.

Rust on the underside of the upper tailgate is a known issue. The question is how bad it is. Can it be stopped or is it something that will necessitate a new tailgate at some point.

The price sounds really good. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a well maintained cruiser with 245K. To me, the issue with really high mile ones is that at 245K, probably the best you can reasonable hope for is another 100K. That isn't too bad for $8K. But you may only get 50K more or it may go to 500K. The point being, will you feel it is a waste if you are potentially looking for a new truck again in 6-10 years? If tailgate isn't too bad, I think I would be comfortable with that, given the price.

I also like the white Landcruisers, although the white LX470s are a little too 80s Euro-looking for my taste.

Getting 50k out of it without crazy repair bills, would be acceptable. 100k would be outstanding. 50k would be 5 years for me. If I throw $2000 into it, that's pretty cheap transportation. That's assuming it's completely worthless at the end of it. As long as it's reasonable to make that assumption I'm good. I work on my own cars, so that should help. Is there is anything in particular to look for that hasn't been mentioned?

Have you ran a Carfax? Have you input the VIN into the Lexus owners website? Have you test driven it? Will the owner let you plug in an OBD scanner and see if any codes are present? Has the timing belt been changed at the correct interval?

These are all pretty basic steps in purchasing a used car. In my opinion , and I just purchased a 07' LX, $8,000 seems really low, almost suspiciously low for an 06', just my take from my six month search of looking for a 100 series...
