I spent a few days doing some casual trails near Buena Vista last week...

Going up and back down the other side of Hancock was fairly tough and rocky, but the summit was very mild...

Cumberland Pass was beautiful and easy...

Tincup was gnarly...

Gotta love the Wile E. Coyote tunnels along the Arkansas River...

I had a lot of fun bombing around the FourMile area. I ended up rescuing two guys who were woefully unprepared out in the desert. Made for an interesting day...

The first guy was trying to get a little shade under a tree and down to his last few drops of water. With a dying phone, he was trying to re-connect with the Chaffee County Sherriff's office. When he saw me show up, it was as if Jesus appeared. The guy was ecstatic. He had been out all night after parking his bike and setting off on foot but getting lost. It was about 1pm the next day now and he was starting to bake in the sun.

The 2nd guy was found just a few miles later. He looked messed up on heroin or something. I was hesitant to even bring him along but he looked desperate. They both got back to town safely.

i love seeing your pics. i grew up going to tincup as a kid, my uncle has a cabin in alpine below the ghost town that we always went to. Do Mt. Antero if you're still up there!

Thanks! That must have been a great spot for family fun.

I was going to do Antero. I went up to the turn-off for it. But I was solo, had no spotter and it looked mighty rough.

Nics pics, we love that area and have vacationed there last 2 yeas. Did you go up to Hancock Lake by the way near Nathrop?

I wanted to get over Hancock so I didn't do the spur to the lake.

That far side of Hancock is less rocky but man, there are some steep inclines.

I'd really like to do Tomichi Pass but it is closed. As you get to the far end of Hancock, you see forest service warnings about a big rockslide. I sure hope it re-opens someday. That view you get of it from Hancock makes it look tremendous. I love the high alpine trails.

By the way, the 3 mile road on the far side of Hancock that gets you close to The Alpine Tunnel is also closed; and it looks permanent.

unless antero has gotten way worse its honestly not as bad as tincup. also, i dig the steelies on mtrs. looks great.

Thanks for that! The old books I have indicated that Antero was "Difficult" and Tincup was "Moderate"... I have to say, Tincup was rather gnarly.

If anybody would like to get together and run Antero sometime, I'd be all over it.

I'm down to get up there and tackle it.

Thank for posting and for being a Good Samaritan. You have a good heart. A beautiful drive and helped some lives, not a bad day!

Thanks! I was just doing what anybody on here would do if they saw people in need.

It was more than a bit strange though. I've helped plenty of people on the trail with supplies, gas, assistance, navigation advice, whatever. But never had to bring somebody back to town. And then it happens again minutes later. Weird!
