FJ45 2F to diesel conversion advice needed

I have an FJ45 which I have recently finished rebuilding from scratch. It has the traditional 2F petrol engine . The FJ series and @F engines are fairly common here in Zimbabwe so spares are not normally a prob . This is the 3rd one of these beasties that I have built and I love them to bits. I am however wanting to put a diesel engine into her and not having done it before would like to get advice from anyone on which is the most straightforward conversion.

Any help and advice would be appreciated

if you find a 2h diesel and trans it should be a pretty easy swap. motors mounts will need to be swapped and you will have to deal with the 12volt to 24 volt thing (unless your rig is 24v?)

check out www.ih8mud.com for all your cruiser questions. they have a diesel section

The 2H is what came in the 45s....however, when I looked at converting my troopy, there was no difference in efficiency with the diesel as compared to the petrol motor, especially when kept in good tune.

Now, I know there are folks who have swapped in a 1HZ-T or the like, with an H55F 5 speed transmission, but I'm sure you'd have to do some motor mount and crossmember work.

That or an HD-T would be a great swap. 70s and 80s with HZ/HDs are pretty common in Africa. If you are going to have to modify the engine mounts, relocating a crossmember is not a big deal.

I would do an HZ since HD-Ts are probably going to cost more, then evaluate and decide if you want to add a turbo for more power. Not sure what all engine/trans/tcase combos are available, but something out of a utility trim 70 troopy or ute might be simpler than from an 80.
