FJ62- 1988 Land Cruiser This is the scoop....clean frame, very little rust..rocker panel clean, 1/4panels and interior a 9 out of 10...asking $3,900.....with 219k on the odometer...strong runner sounds smooth, some exhaust work necessary, valve and manifold gaskets, etc....I would like over time to if its worth it to really fix it up for some good strong 4x4 and cross country traveling..is this vehicle for me and what might I be looking at to update her..hoping there might be another thread on similiar topic and truck...

Key rust points are around the windshield, bottoms of doors, around rear fender wells and on the rear hatch. None of that is mission critical, just expensive and time consuming to fix.

There's about 2 miles of vacuum tubing in the engine - any one of which can cause unsteady idle.

Mileage doesn't seem too high -mine had over 225k when I sold it 4 years ago, and I still see it around town from time to time.

I don't have any input on the price - I sold mine for $2300 and a bottle of whiskey - but it had rust in all of the mentioned areas. Strong runner though.

I loved mine - but there's no such thing as a fast FJ62 (versions with 502CI engine swaps not withstanding) so if your plans include long distance travel, and it sounds like they do, might not be the best choice, if you're in a hurry.

4 mounted 33X12.50X15 mud tires will fit behind the back seat with room to spare though, so plenty of room for gear.

I just purchased an 88 fj62 and I love it. I am getting the kinks out as we speak but its a strong runner so far. I have wanted one for a long time to use as a long distance offroad rig. It works for me.
