FJ80 parking brake adjustment

Tried the search engine but came up empty. My Parking Brake does nothing - notta - zip. Is there an adjustment procedure for this? Everything seems to be there and was cleaned off a couple days ago. Any help would be appreciated.

It's sort of a pain. You have to back everything off then start at the parking brake shoes inside the rear rotor, then work forward. I'll email you the pages from the FSM.

Thanks for that picture. I need to adjust mine too. Is there a reason the system doesn't have the automatic--adjust-while-reversing feature that drum brakes typically have?

Probably because it is an entirely independent system from the service brakes. Sort of like the park brake that is used on many rovers and cruisers that is on the output of the transfer case.

check to make sure that the arms that go into the backing plate aren't frozen. it is very common on these trucks. usually alot of elbow grease and some good penatrant will free them up.

This is worth having a brake shop do it. You'll spend 2 hours driving yourself insane and they'll do it for $50.

Did mine this morning. Took about 2 minutes per side once I got the wheels off. Simple job. Crank the star wheel up until pads lock against the drum then back off a click or two.
Only down side for me was that I twisted off a wheel stud that must have had a cross-threaded lug on it. Oh well, better than having a lug stick tight in the middle of nowhere without enough torque to snap it off.
