for those with tents on trailers...

This is a bit trivial, but for those with tents ontop of their trailers, do you have the tent fold out to the drivers side or the passenger side.

Why?

I might be making mountains outta mole hills on this one. Just trying to be thorough before fab work begins on mine.

What side does your trailer top open on? If the opening is on the driver's side, have your tent open to the passenger side. Here's why... in the event you had to open the top while the tent was up, it would be much easier to open if only the edge of the tent had to be lifted along with it. To mount your tent the other way would mean either putting it back down or lift the whole tent (rather than the edge) just to get something out. Does that make sense? I hope I explained it well.

Yep, you explained it well.

However, I am building this trailer from scratch and haven't built the lid yet so I was wondering if anyone had any great wisdom of something I was missing before I started to comit to one side or the other.

Thanks!

I have had mine to the drivers side, rear and now to the front. All had some pluses. To the side was my least favorite, mostly because set up is harder with having to level everything. I do not have a very good ladder so that was part of the problem. I think a lot of it is personal preference or trial and error and what your over all set up is.

We set up our trailers to open over to the drivers side. Lid opens from the passenger side. Our reasoning is that if you are going to make a casual stop to access your cargo, you are most likely will be on the go and be pulling off the side of the raod to do so, being on the passenger side is safer as you would be out of the way of traffic. Since selecting a place to camp is a more involved process, having the tent deployed onto the drivers side is less of an issue. We keep the tent hing and the trailer lid hinge on the same access. Hope that helps.

My tent setup opens to the drivers side...no real reason, but it works for me. My lid is hinged at the front and opens forward.

Thanks-

For me I am trying to make sure I dont pull a D'oh after the fact, but it really wont matter that much with regards to the tent, it will effect the placement of my on board shower and which side I mount it to. thanks again everyone.
