Ford E150 Questions

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking at buying a 2004 Ford E150 2WD Cargo and have a few questions since I'm unfamiliar with these.

1. The 4.6, it has a good history but how are these motors? Right now it has 119,000 miles on it and runs great. It looks fairly simply to work on but wanted some opinions of it.

2. Is it just me or is the E150 suspension height noticeably different than the 250/350? This one seems lower.

3. Any weird quirks I should know about this?

I'm buying this to build into a lightweight camper van. I'm going to go off of the Vanagon Weekender platform (no kitchen, cubby, etc) and it will also serve as my daily. If my observations are correct about the suspension can one simply swap in springs from a 250 or 350 to get a little lift?

Thanks in advance!

I own a 2004 F150 Heritage with the 4.6 in it. I have racked up 305,000 km on it so far. If you do All the service indicated in the owners manual at the recommended mileage intervals it will be like mine, it just passed an emissions test as if it was new. If you neglect it, not so much.:coffee:

My only failure was an alternator at 1/4 million km. Since I used to leave the engine running for 8 to 16 hrs per day (to keep the strobe, inverter for work power and rear light bar on while working on the highway I figured that I just wore it out.

My final caution is to let the dealership change the plugs at the required interval, they are easy to break leaving a chunk of them in the head if you screw it up.

Perfect! Tips like this are awesome. Thank you! Good to hear on the motor too, it seems very well taken care of so I hope its similar.

The E150 likely rides on 15" wheels and the 250 &350 are on 16's. You can probably use E250 springs to lift it a bit. You will likely need more suspension capacity after you camperize it anyways. Make sure you service the transmission.

Thanks Sweet Van,

Transmission has been serviced and it has upgraded 16s on it already! Getting pretty excited :) Attached a photo.
