From los Andes to the Amazon

Bolivia is the only one country that have Mountains and Jungle in the same place, heve some pictures to show you how you can drive from home to the Andes at 4,800 m.o.s.l. and in few hours reach the jungle at 1,200 m.o.s.l.

This pictures are a place called Valle de Zongo located at 90 Km from La Paz city. In 3 hours you descends from the Andes to the tropincal valley.

The engines suffer rigorous testing operation being carried these elevation changes so quickly.

que bueno encontrar a gente aventurera de Bolivia en el foro, yo he estado en su pais en tres oportunidades haciendo recorridos por diversos lugares.
Quisiera saber si es posible o sea si hay camino entre Rurrenabaque y Apolo y si de Apolo se puede subir a la cordillera para salir luego por La Paz, nuestros vehiculos equipan winches y neumaticos apropiados.
Tambien quisiera saber como es zona de Mapiri, hacia las minas de oro, ya que por algunos relatos que nos dieron en Caranavi parece ser interesante el manejar por esos caminos.

No existe ruta entre Apolo y rurrenabaque, hay un rio que no se puede atravesar aun en epoca seca.

A Apolo se puede llegar por el Alto Beni, Caranavi, o por coordillera por Pelechuco.

Sobre Mapiri, increhible lugar, cabecera de amazonia, casi sin vinculacion caminera, aventura total, hay un circueto hermoso para realizar en 4 dias, La Paz, Caranavi, Guanay, Mapiri, Cozata, Sorata, La Paz....A+++ para off road y aventura.

I enjoyed visiting Bolivia, particularly my drive to Noel Kempff Mercado National Park, where I saw Jaguar and Maned Wolf up close. (The Jaguar was actually a little too close!) I look forward to visiting Madidi National Park some day.

Tell us more about the routes you recommend for visitors. Do you offer a guide service?

Bolivia is not the only country where drivers can visit a great range of elevation in a brief trip. The Cusco-Paucartambo-Shintuya Road in Peru, also called the Old Manu Road, passes through 4100 meters / 13,500 ft east of Cusco, and descends to about 400 meters / 1300 ft near Shintuya. It's a wonderful drive through many life zones, from subalpine puna to tropical rainforest, that can be driven in a day, or savored for a week or more.

We offer several routes depending the client, easy, medium or hard, includin visits to the most important places like Salar de Uyuni, Madidi National Park, Chapare and other.

Spent a few days at the base of Sajama. Worst soroche ever; I couldn't wait to get back to Irpavi. Suddenly the zona sur actually seemed warm and low.

Estimado Roberto, gracias por la informacion, revise la ruta que planteaste en un mapa que tengo y se ve interesante,hasta me parece que 4 dias es poco tiempo y mas si es en epoca de lluvias. Lo de llegar a Apolo por Pelechuco me parece que debe ser un viaje similar,pero como no hay vinculo entre Rurre y Apolo, es entonces un callejon sin salida? Me gustaria que me informaras , si de Apolo se puede seguir hacia el norte hasta encontrar algun camino que me lleve bien sea a Cobija o a Riberalta , para asi salir hacia Brasil y de ahi a casa. Gracias de nuevo por tan valiosa informacion.
