Price: $9,500 OBO
Location: San Antonio, TX
Description: 1995 NAS Discovery SD, Manual Transmission (R380), 200tdi conversion.
For those who aren't familiar with the model lines of the Discovery Series 1 the SD is the base model, e.g. no sunroofs, cloth seats, etc.
The truck has 171,554 miles. The engine has about 130,000 miles. I get about 500 miles per tank. I was getting around 540 to 560 per tank until I installed an a/c compressor.
I bought the truck in 2007. I did the conversion in 2008 and the truck was my daily driver until March of this year, 2011. I did the conversion with expedition travel in mind.
The truck has a few small modifications other than the engine. It has Bilstein shocks and a Bilstein steering damper. Other modifications are as follows; an ARB bumper, heavy duty springs (no lift) up front to support the engine and the ARB bumper, a genuine Saudi grille, BFG all terrain tires, custom sliders (made by Nathan B.), DBA Longlife cross drilled rotors all around, a rear ladder, and the genuine floor mats. Also, the truck comes with a full size cover (see photo).
When I bought the truck it was in Denver, CO. Before and during the conversion I pulled out all the carpet for cleaning. There's no rust other than the small spot in the back passenger door (see photo).
The truck has the factory radio (see photos). The Owner before me installed a JVC cd player. I bought a used factory stereo cassette player and swapped the JVC out for an original factory radio. I purchased a factory cd changer but have never installed it. The truck is wired for the cd changer, but it needs a bracket to support the changer under the driver's seat. I never found a bracket and never bothered making one because I use my iphone for music.
The differential lock, i.e. the four wheel drive, works well. It shifts smoothly and engages.
The ABS works. The system was repaired when I bought the truck and it's worked ever since.
All the steering column and dash controls work except for the cruise control. The cruise control system for the V8 couldn't be used for the 200tdi. The V8 cruise control electrical system passes through the ECU, which isn't in use for the 200tdi. There are only six wires connecting to the 200tdi engine. There's no “brain” for the 200tdi. It's almost entirely mechanical.
The power windows work. The power locks in the back won't always unlock automatically. Sometimes they have to be manually pulled up.
The truck brakes to the left under moderate or heavy stopping. The pads and rotors are fine. I've tried bleeding the brakes, but there was no change. My guess is the front, passenger caliper needs to be replaced. I replaced the front, driver's side caliper a year ago. That's when I noticed the truck pull to the left while braking.
I replaced the power steering box when I purchased the truck. It's leaking again so it needs to be replaced.
The truck does drip oil every now and then. It goes through about a quart of oil between changes (5,000 miles), which, I guess, the engine is burning because I rarely see any oil drips on the garage floor.
As for the upholstery the front driver and passenger carpet are rough. The carpet has a tear on the passenger side and a hole on the driver's side. The back seat carpet and the cargo area carpet are in good shape. The driver's seat cushion support ripped a few years ago. I replaced the support with bungee cords to support the seat cushion. The headliner is falling at the places where the sun roofs would be located.
I've had to mend the center console. I put a metal plate behind the emergency brake to secure the plastic that supports the hand brake cover. You can see the screws that are supporting the metal bracket in one of the photos.
The Disco runs well. It will make the trip if the buyer wants to drive it home instead of having it shipped.
I don't think I'm leaving anything out. Feel free to e-mail me with questions.
