Found this through my "net meanderings"...
i've been looking for a water/gas storage solution
to keep the weight low and presence minimal
check these out

look around a bit, there's lots of neat ideas based on an ATV's limited storage area.
i'm thinking i could mount one of the 4 gallon water/gas containers right on the side of the jeep and it would stick out no further than the fender flares.
also, one would easily be able to mount this to interior/exterior truck bed- sides, or on top of a bonnet/hood.
advantages i see...
1. keeps the COG low
2. would be removable stowable when not in use, leaving only the mounting brackets
3. would keep water/gas very available @ camp or on the trail
disadvantages
1. if mounted on the sides of a vehicle-susceptable to narrow trail "rubbing" and damage.
