Just curious what you all think about this rig as an Overland setup? We are looking to put new suspension, tires, etc to kit it out. We are hoping to add a 10 foot habitation box on the bed. Possibly adding a different engine or the Steinbauer chip if that is an option.

4M42-AOT – 2977 cc. 4-cylinder with DOHC, direct injection,
a Bosch VP44 rotary injection pump with electronic control,
turbocharging, and intercooling. With EGR
they complied to Euro 3
performance 92 kW at 3200 rpm and 294 Nm at 1800 rpm.

size:
Length 15.4 feet long
height 6.2 feet
width: 5.54 feet

bed is 7 foot long and 5.3" wide

base curb weight 2020kg

Cheers and thanks in advance

Me and a buddy have been looking at these from a distance for years and mulling it over as a platform.

Would you be keeping doubles at the back or switching to single wheels? Some of them came with a 16.5" wheel so have a close look at the wheels for availability/compatibility. Also the 4m42 has an electronic pump so ensure that you can get it serviced (or at least diagnosed) if needed. The 4m41 (Pajero 3.2) was able to flash codes (if you had a paper clip) so there may be options for the 3.0L as well? EGR can provide it's own challenges but I'm not sure of any specifics with this model. Just a few things to keep in mind.

I love the platform and I think with the right upgrades it would be epic. Such a great size.

If you've never driven a small turbo diesel on North American roads it can be an adjustment but I'm not sure where you sit on the "JDM continuum". Lol.
