I had the TRD supercharger on my 96 with the URD fuel upgrade kit. I installed the URD kit and the supercharger. It was knocking under boost from the start. Only problem was my wideband was reading 11.5.1 fuel ratios and I was still knocking real bad. Called URD and it turnes out in some early 3.4's that were from x production number-x production number had a very major factory defect that Toyota has kept really quiet. Toyota actually produced 3.4's with a slightly bent crankshaft!!! Yes you heard that right, the motor will run great their entire lives UNTIL..... you add boost to the motor. The guy from URD has told me that he has heard of this happening to people and that the source of the problem is a factory bent crankshaft. Only has been found in Japanese assembled 4-runners so far. Since all Tacomas are assembled in the US I did not think it could be true, but after further inspection I dont think my motor is original to my truck. Granted it is very rare, but I just want to let everyone know that this is a problem. It just didnt make sense to me when when I was trying to tune it and it knocked more when adding more fuel. I was told to look at the crankshaft pully at idle. It should be %100 true, but mine, has a slight wobble to it which is the problem. So I took off the kit and it runs great again. Just check out your crank pully before you go even further. Only has been found on early 3.4 motors from 4-runners so far.
