GAIA Appears To Be Beyond Fixable For Me.

So it appears my GAIA app is hopelessly broken. Been using it for several years now and overall happy. But.

2 days ago they released a new version (iOS) and on first sync, it synced in thousands previously deleted waypoints, and it put them in the home directory even if they were previously in folders. After trying to clean up, I just deleted everything, included archived stuff. I had a 4 day old backup so I was GTG or so I thought.

I imported a small number and sync'd. Good. a few more. Good. Double check archives (TrashCan) was purged. It was. Added a few more. Synced good. etc.

Today I synced and thousands of deleted waypoints re-appeared. And many were just duplicates. There seems to be no fix, and trying to fix it is extremely time consuming.

I have a great GPX library but GAIA is to me useless now.

Anyone else have or heard of similar issues?

Sounds like a device issue.

I've heard a few people having large GPX downloads and pin files issues. Most people mention breaking things up and offloading. Look at how much RAM your ios is running.

Most complaints I've noticed have been from apple products. Both my Samsungs tablet & zfold have 12gb of ram, then my laptop holds 32gb of ram. I have pins all over the US. watch those trail-tracking files. Keep those devices current

I had a problem with GAIA that they would not fix. I used it for both off and on-road mapping. The bug is with on-road mapping, "snap to track" feature. You should be able to easily reproduce it. Simply create a track along a highway, say for example, From Albuquerque to Raton following Hwy 25. You set a starting point on the highway in ABQ, then click on the same highway in Raton to set an end-point. Save the track. Now, go back and look at the track you created. For me, it would take practically every off-ramp exit, then back onto the highway, sometimes just going on and off, sometimes snapping to a parallel road, then back on. You can drag the track back to the highway, but it will just do it again. I reported the bug a couple of years ago, and I just put up with it. Recently, I tried creating a new track from Phoenix, AZ to Cedar Rapids IA, and it seems even worse than before. I reported the bug and they acknowledged it, but will not fix it. Instead, they offered me a free year's subscription.

This problem makes it very difficult to get actual distances traveled and if you don't pay attention to what is up, it can send you down a road you don't want to be on. Gaia works great off-road, probably since there are no off-ramps. For me, it was just too frustrating to try and re-draw tracks or correct them took too much time/effort.

So, enter ONX. Doesn't have the same problem and in fact I like it better. Cheaper, provides more trail information and better tracking.
