Garmin Nuvi 660

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 660. What I'd like to do is save various places in the "Favorites" section. I read the instruction manual and according to it, the only way to do this is to go to the location, and then add it to the favorites. So, I cannot pre-load a location to the "Favorites" without going there first?

I've got the same gps and you don't have to "go" physically to a location to add it to your favorites. You can hit the "where to?" button then use any of those features, ie city, browse map, coordinates ect. Once you find your or enter your location you have the option of "go", "show map" or "save." If you hit save it will allow you to add details such as the name of the location. It will then be saved in you favorites. The 660 is a great gps.

Thanks! The instruction manual (on a DVD) didn't say that and I thought it was odd that I couldn't save a Favorite without physically going there. My idea is to enter a bunch of different camping sites all over the country so when I'm driving around and ready to camp, I can just pull up which ones are in the area and pick one.

I'm going to use the Garmin for the first time today...have to run down south to a 4x4 shop and then up north to another one. I'm hoping this little gadget will pay off as a nice investment. I picked it up for $220, so it wasn't too steep of a price.

I used the Gamin for the first time yesterday. Had to go to an off-road shop near Daytona Beach and it got me there with ease. I then put it on the map view and went to Daytona Beach (Bike Week has started). After riding around there for a while, I used it again to go to another off-road shop up in Jacksonville, and then once more to get home. I'm VERY impressed with this!

One thing I'm not sure about though...can I save a route? For instance, I'd like to map out various off-road trails as I drive them...can this be done? If so, how? I looked through the directions again this morning and it doesn't say anything about doing this.

Unfortunately you can not save routes. Other than lacking that feature the gps is awesome. You can load the topo maps on it so make sure you do that, if you have them. When I get off the pavement I just switch over to the topo map. They were not designed to use the topo but it works just fine. The only feature that you can't use it the auto route, no pink line to your destination which is fine with me. Make sure you use the garmin web update every few months as well. It's an easy and seamless way to update the software. The garmin is so much more user friendly than the lowrance model I have that I don't know if I'll ever get another brand.

K...thanks.

I don't have the topo maps...will have to check the Garmin site about that.
