Hello GPS Nerds,

Just an update to my quest to fix that extremly irritating track truncating bug in the mapsource software.

I kind of worked it out with one of the Gamin Techs (after a month or so of trial and error) and the fix is kind of easy:

-If the file is saved ON YOUR UNIT before it goes to the PC, it automatically truncates to 700 pts max
-If you transfer the file to your PC as an ACTIVE LOG without renaming it before you send it, you will get all of the points (up to 10000), the only way to get all the detail to your PC
-If you rename the file and then try to upload it back to your unit, it will truncate it to 700 pts max and you will lose A LOT of detail, which is a very annoying and retarded bug in their software, one that they refuse to fix for some reason :(

My fix, that works great:

-Even if you rename the file once you transfer and store it on your PC you can upload it with full detail up to 10000 pts if you rename it again before you upload it
-Before sending the file to your unit, rename it to ACTIVE LOG 001 or ACTIVE LOG 002, etc...
-It has to be ALL CAPS and must have a number with it if there is more then 1 track on the unit

Anyway, i am happy as hell to have fixed this bug and can now save very detailed tracks (ie. race course tracks, etc...)

Carry On.......

If you convert a track log on your PC to a route before you transfer it back to your GPS receiver you can transfer up to 10,000 point with no truncation. Just another way to get around the 500 point track point limit.:sombrero:

Its not easy and cannot be done in the Mapsource software.

I do it with GPS Babel, its a free download.

Its pretty involved, but most cool once its done.

If your interested, post up and i will walk you through it on here.

Also, it makes the file HUGE!
