I have 98 montero and the CEL comes on 2 weeks ago. It seems like the TPS need to be replace. I ordered a TPS and ready to put on. I wondering if there is any specific procedure to set the new TPS in place because the screw holes on the TPS looks like it allow some kind of adjustment. Do I need to use my OBD2 scanner and make sure the throttle position is in closed when idle? Or it should be open in certain percentage? I try to search on google but can't found an answer.
Thx guys

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Can't remember specs off hand but you need to put a feeler gauge between the throttle stop then hook your multimeter to the first and third prong and basically zero it out and tighten the screws.

Now, if you bought an aftermarket one don't worry about the above because it will never be within spec. Just slap it on dead center of the adjustment and disconnect your battery for a minute to clear the code. Repeat this process for a few weeks while making minor adjustments until your CEL stay's off. Sometimes even if it's not throwing a code while out of adjustment the truck will do odd things throttle and transmission wise, worst case if it's doing these things just disconnect the TPS and it will switch to a base setting and get you home to throw that TPS in the trash and order a good one. :)

If it's like most TPS', you can usually hear the detent in the TPS make a faint "click". You can use that as your guide.
