gen 3 monty/pajero engine rpm´s

ok so i have been test driving gen3 pajeros and the diesel 3.2 did engine rpms att 80kmh are ~1800rpm with a manual tranny.
what are the rpms in the v6 3.5 att 80kmh?????

Actually in my V6 3.0L with manual trans my rpms for cruising on the highway @ 70 mph (110 kmh) are above 3000rpm. Down to 50 mph (80 kmh) about 2500-2700rpm. I can assume the same for a V6 3.5.

Automatics will have lower rpms in overdrive as will diesels. autos have the torque converter to add torque and diesels just make gobs of low end torque.

IIRC, on my 96SR w/ a 3.5L engine, an automatic transmission & 35" tires I'm running at ~2100-2200rpm @ 50mph and as high as 2700rpm @ 75-80mph. The 35's are ~13% bigger than the stock tires (31") so you can increase my rpm by 13% (= 2400 or 3050 rpm respectively) to get an idea of what the stock rpm would be at those speeds.

Why are you comparing a gas engine to a turbo diesel? The have very different power bands and efficiency ranges.

The Dual Mass flywheels in the 3.2 diesels seem to be fond of breaking and causing the owners lots of expense,see if you can get one that has had the solid mass conversion.

And like what was said above,the powerband in a diesel is from 1800 to 3500 rpm,so cruising is best at between 1800 and 2500 rpm,whereas in a petrol it is much higher,the power only really starts at 2500,but goes a lot higher than diesel. Theres not an equation that says: capacity * rpm = mpg If that is what you were wondering about
