has anyone ever seen a 4 cyl 5 speed in this body? ive never even seen a 4, let alone with the 5 speed.

if so, what engine was it. obviously it would be a 22re, but did anything else go in before the taco came along?

When I bought my '89 mini truck w/ 22RE and a 5-speed, a V6 was an option but I don't remember which exact one. Should have been the same for 4Runners though.

I had a 1990 4runner with a 22RE and a 5 speed. I think it was only available in 90 though. All; the same stuff as later model first gens but with the gen 2 body.

thanx! id love to have one. i just really hate the 3.slow and am not interested in swapping a 3.4. if anything, i think a mild built 3rz would be tits.

looking to buy in late february, so if anyone spots one, please pass it on.

THe 5spd Man. is the Key... The Atuo's (4 or 6cyl) are complete turds IMO. I love my 22RE 5spd combo and IMO aside from the advantage of 4drs (course I can take my top off so :D ), the 1st gen's are just a tougher truck IMO cause of the rear leaves (ALOT more load capacity/less complexity and ease of lift - no new control arms etc) bu that's all IMO and the Gen II does still have the 1st Gen's far burlier frame and much tougher IFS system then the following offerings from Toyota. (not sure though, did the 3rd Gen 4Runner still have the fully boxed frame or had that gone away already)

But since you're looking for a Gen II 5spd 22RE good luck I know they're out there, but they're as rare as 2dr Gen II's at least...

Yeah the 3rd gens still have the fully boxed frame.

If you want a 4cyl definitely go for a 1st gen, unless you're going to keep it stock for a family ride, the coils in the rear do make gen II's more plush, but it's too soft to haul any sum of gear.

I have a 2 door 2nd gen 5 speed with the 22re. It's so much fun to drive. Mine came from Canada (speedo is in KM/H's and has a block heater).

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLLY-rare gem's there Batman. Love the idea of having a block heater as well eh. Neat truck to say the least, rare as anything I've ever seen eh, course it came from Canada wich seems to be THE spot to get rare Toyotas into N.America (I see yours is LHD so it's Canadian not JDM but still...)

Cheers

It looks much better with the Tundra alloys on it. If it had AC I'd be taking it to TDF later this year but if it doesn't sell soon I may end up retrofitting it and taking it anyway.

Just what it's worth. Depending on the gearing you have. I was talking to a guy who had 33's and a 22re in his gen II and his gas mileage was still atrocious. Because it doesn't make any power he's revving 4k whenever he hits the slightest hill.

That being said, i'm not sure how heavy his foot was haha.

these are easy to come by. i had one installed on my 1985 toyota 4wd, 22RE at the dealership. i don't remember the cost, but it wasn't expensive. of course, that was 10 years ago.

33's = necessary regear, even with 31's a regear should be done
