gen1 montero windshield help, NC.

So I have a 1985 gen 1 shorty with a cracked windshield in the Raleigh/Garner area of NC. I have sourced a replacement windshield and seal but I'm having a hard time finding a shop that will touch it. I've watched a video of the repair and it doesn't seam to bad so I might have to go that route. Just seeing if anyone knows a shop in my area that will do it or maybe some expertise on how hard it is to do yourself. Thanks.

Old technology for the install. Probably not many people in the industry that know how to do it anymore.

Replacing windows isn't super hard, i replaced the back windows in a Mercedes sprinter van and YouTube is your friend

So I ended up finding a guy that only does glass for some custom paint shops. I called multiple before getting this guys number as well as two custom offroad shops. It's getting done on tuesday for 125$ so hopefully thats that. The guy told me he's done a few monteros but he mentioned that they use the same windshield as a certain ford but I don't recall which one so i'll find that out as well.

Glad you found one. Last windshield replacement I did was for a Ford Expedition. Genuine Ford glass plus labor and was $175 total but was 10 years ago.

Wish I can find the seal for the Sport model so I can keep the chrome surround trim

Bit late here, They do not need to cut the gasket to remove the old screen. The gasket is reusable.

So I had it done last week and the old gasket was so dry rotted and must have been glued at one point. It took the guy quite a while to get it off after breaking the window out.

If you ever find yourself in that situation again, or for anyone else dealing with this issue…there is a guy on YouTube named Tony Watkins that has a very knowledgeable and extensive build series of his 88 Raider. In episode 10 he shows how to remove the windshield. If you ever need a new windshield seal go to https://monterogen1man.com/. He has brand new front and rear window seals as well as door seals.
