Gen1 tires options

I've got 16" x6" wheels and a 3.73 ratio and I'm wanting bigger tires. Seems 265/75 and 235/85 would fit, but would a bigger size fit with trimming? And at what point does the size negatively effect mpg or transmission shift points? I'm a fan of 255/85 but that might be a pipe dream.

I just put on a set of goodyear duratracs 265/75 r16 on my 2012 E350 RB. No rubbing. it's a good fit.

Sorry I should have described vehicle better, this would be on a 2005 sprinter. It's looking like 235/85 is the best easy fit so far, as 265/75 is specified for 6.5" minimum width wheel.
