Gen2 ARB Safari Snorkel Install

I just installed an ARB snorkel on my Montero and wrote a post about on my WCXC blog.

Here’s the biggest tip of the whole exercise: use the template only to drill the big, 86mm hole. Mark the small, snorkel bolt holes as well but use the bolts themselves to determine their exact positions. The template may not be accurate — it wasn’t for us. Use the same method for determining the positions of the A-pillar holes and you’ll be dead on.

Here's the post: ARB Safari Snorkel Install

I install / service commercial security systems for a living & have learned that the templates are only good for the major holes (for wire placement, main center bolts, etc) but suck for the screw / bolt mounting areas.

Yes it's one problem with the ARB snorkel kit. Some haven't had issues but many have. Glad you got past it.

I'm pretty surprised ARB has not come out with a better template solution. With my Malaysian snorkel they include a template made from an actual snorkel w/out the outer half. It's about as exact a fit as you can get.

[rant]HELLO ARB ARE YOU LISTENING? Besides being a 70% cheaper solution that's very comparable it's a far better mounting template as well so I didn't have to tear up my fender any more than necessary.[/rant]

Sorry bout that. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Yeah, we got out the half-round file and made it work.

I used my bur tip and drill to make quick work of it. I can tell you that cutting the big hole without a hole saw is quite amusing. Sawzall metal blades can grab the fender and start shaking it like it owes it money..... You had to be here to get that....
