Getting ready to pull the trigger. . ..

OK;

After Christmas, I am going to purchase my lift. The vehicle 04 Tacoma 4X4 double cab. I have a couple of options that price out about the same so I need advise as to the best bang for the buck. The vehicle is still (and will continue to be) my daily driver, but as I have a company car, the truck only gets driven about 8 to 10 K a year. My tire size will be 285/75R16. I want my lift to be quality and perform well, while still staying within my budget. Here are my options which all price out relatively the same;

1: Icon 2.5 coil overs, Icon remote resivoir rear shocks and a deaver progessive 3 leaf AAL.

2: SAW 2.5 coil overs, OME Dakar leafs and OME shocks in the rear.

3: SAW 2.0 (possibly 2.5 depending on price) coil overs, Deaver 8 leaf and Bilstine shocks in the rear.

What do you guys think and why?

I have a set of SAW 2.0 coilovers. They work well but I have ridden with someone who has the 2.5 coilovers. The 2.5s do ride better in my opinion. If possible I would go with the SAW 2.5s, deaver 8 leaf pack. and Bilstein shocks. If you can't do that then go with the SAW 2.0 coilovers, deaver 8 leaf pack. and Bilstein shocks. This is my $0.02.

Definetly the ICON's up front (just cause I have them and they rock!) and either the Deaver 8pk or Dakar's, the rear depends on how much weight you will have back there...

x3.

I have a Deaver 10 pack and sometimes think 11 would be ideal!

Just did a little more research, and I think I might be able to squeeze in the following set up; Icon coil overs, deaver 8 leaf (don't carry really carry heavy loads) and bilstine 5100's. It's all just shy of $1800 from wheeler's off road. Dam, I really wanted matching Icon resivoir shocks in the back, but at almost $400 compared to $150 for the bilstiens, I think it's better to invest in the leaf pack instead of fancy rear shocks. What do you guys think?

Ditto on the 11 pack Deaver!.....An extra leaf would sure be just right!

Good setup in my opinion. I have the resi rear shocks and like them - but are they worth the extra $$ more? Not sure about that.

Make sure you price out an OME rear setup too. Very stout.

I went with some Firestone airbags for the rear of my tacoma. They are pretty cheap, you can get a couple of inches of lift out of them and you can adjust them in seconds for your load. I know they are not the most popular but they work well for me.

Anyone have any thoughts on the 3 leaf AAL from Deaver? TTORA guys are running it and they wheel theirs pretty hard.

My vote is the Deavers due to not having an overload spring. You get better performance and flex at the cost of payload. I would also stick it out for the 2.5" coil overs regardless of make. I have Donahoes up front and the Deaver 8 pack with Bils in the read. The only problem with my set up is that the rear is a little stiff with the bed weight I run. I plan on getting a cab after the first of the year and the extra weight will go a long way to smoothing out the ride and helping my rear flex a little more. By the way, my Deavers flex like Spiderman as it is.

Good option for low cost and if your stock springs are still in good shape. They will not perform as well as a full Deaver spring though. Plus remember that the Deaver spring moves your rear axle forward by 3/4" to allow for better travel within the wheel well - big plus.

My cousin just added those to his 07' and they ride nice compared to an AAL or shackle. But the full leaf packs are your best bet. The Dakars are only like $350ish. Like the rest of us have done many times over you can always upgrade later if they aren't enough:elkgrin:

For about a thousand bucks, I'm rolling on SAW 2.0's, Alcan AAL and Billie 5125's. I could not be happier with my suspension. I abuse the hell out of it from desert, go-fast, bumps to the rocks of Moab. I highly recommend option #3. You won't regret it.

BTW... the only difference between the SAW 2.0's and the 2.5's is oil capacity. You will not notice a difference until you pound those CO's HARD, for a LONG TIME. If you're cycling those shocks that hard, they should be rebuilt fairly often. I haven't ever noticed any fade from my 2.0's.
