Got it! '05 Tacoma

:box:Well, things worked out at the VERY last minute and I was able to secure an 05 Tacoma Access cab, TRD / SR5 (is that redundant?) White with grey interior and only 7865 miles!

Today I have much Tacoma work to do: remove ALL of the badges and stickers and if they will fit - put my 235/85/16 BFG AT's off the Rover on the Toyota. They are brand new and I hate to seem them disappear in a Rover deal. They have less than 1K miles and are only one inch taller than stock.
Will they fit the rims OK?
Will they clear everything?

I'm gonna search around the portal this afternoon, but if I might ask, is there a spacer etc. I can use on the lift until I get my OME setup? I just want an inch for now (not that I need it - ahmmm)

This should be a rapid build up so I'll be pestering you folks a lot. I appreciate your input at this forum - can hardly wait to delete DWeb from my favorites...

Congratulations!! You'll love the truck. I've got an 03 and I refuse to drive my buddy's 06 in fear of wanting to buy one. There are a ton of spacer lifts out there for your truck but if you plan on getting an OME set up I'd just skip it and save your cash for the OME. I'm not sure about the rim size on the truck you have but I know the earlier Tacoma's have an 8" rim. I think your tires will only fit a 6-7" rim. If the new Taco's still have the 8" rims I don't think your tires will fit. I'm sure guys that have the truck will be able to chime in with more info. Again congrats!

Congrats on the new truck! Sounds like you found a nice one. I know many here will approve of your color choice.

Regarding redundancy, TRD is their off road package - Bilstein shocks, e-locker, and skid plate. SR5 is the trim level - power windows, power locks, chrome grill, etc. So they're not the same thing. Basically you got one fully loaded.

Your 235's should fit fine. On an 8 inch rim they will pull the tire out a little wider than if they were on a 6-7 inch rim. They will be a fraction less in height than on a narrower rim, but it shouldn't be anything you will notice in handling or performance. They should clear everything just fine.

With less than 1K miles on them, you might inquire to a tire shop about trading the 235's in on a new set of 265's or whatever size you choose if you plan on going with a lift and bigger tires down the road.

Congrats again! :clapsmile

Congrats! I made the jump to Toyota recently as well and am loving it. I can't believe how low the mileage is for a 2 year old truck. Pretty much identical truck to mine except for color/cap.

Congrats. There are a few of us here with '05+s in various state of modification. You might check our threads for ideas.

Some pics

What a good day - the Tacoma has already been loved on. I removed the stickers and badges, put in a K&N air filter, made an appointment for my tire swap tomorrow, installed Hella 80/110 H4 lights and am just about to plan my GPS install.

Sure miss my Discovery II seats. Max seems to think little of the Tacoma.

Here are some before and after pics:

I removed the badges and decals, too. The truck looks soooooo much better after the sanitization. Good move.

Some must-haves for every '05+ owner, IMNSHO:

Husky Liner mats, front and rear.

Silblade FlexBlade wipers. Not just standard Silblades, but the FlexBlades.

Toyota factory bed mat. It really keeps stuff from sliding around.

Real tires, in a 32" size. The factory tires suck. I like the BFG AT-KO in 265-75-16.

The Hella 80/100 bulbs. I see you already have them. *Huge* improvement. Note that they don't last that long, so keep some spares handy.

Donahoe suspension, front and rear. It rides like a dream and works very well off-road. The rear shocks make even the stock leaf springs feel much more sturdy.

Other things to consider:

You can easily mount some back-up lamps on the sides of the trailer hitch. If you look up inside the rear bumper area, the hitch has one hole on each side that perfectly accept the mounting stud from a Hella worklamp. The lamps will sit just above the lowest point of the spare tire, so they should stay safe off-road.

Everyone seems to rip the trailer wiring connector off at some point. You might consider remounting it before this happens to you.

Congrats on the 05. I hate be a downer but just word of caution about early 2005 tacomas potential for rear differential problems and bad motor mounts. Hate for you be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Another reason for the ditching the Land Rover - this Tacoma comes with a Toyota factory warrenty for 7/70K !!! I did the paperwork on that today!
:ylsmoke:

How would it be if I had the wheel arches Rhino Lined? It would look Rover-esque and dress up a rather drab exterior.
