Got me a question about some pipe on the rail

I am a new owner to

and have had a few things fixed since I drove it back from Maine to Montana.

more rust that i previous thought, but oh well its mine now :wings:

down on the rail or fame by the gas tank, I have two hard lines (about 1/4 in in size) that are rusted, but I can't figure out what they are for.

there are Two in parrelell along the frame that are connected with some sort of connector to tie them together (like a cap) towards the rear of the tank area with in the rail.

moving fwd, ones looks like it would continue towards the engine area ( open with nothing connected) and the other one (top) bends up towards the front of the tank and then turns to rubber hose and is attached to the top part of the fuel tank.

so I am confused on what these are for. air vent? do I need to fix them or can I take them out?

there rusted along the rail is why I am concerned, but what confuses me is one is open facing fwd. where would it go, and the other part is connected to the top of the tank.

any direction would help.
I have yet to drop it by the dealer to ask WTH is this question.

thanks.

and no pics (sorry) but I dont have any yet.

I will start my own build thread soon. just need to get settled and some sort of plan.

Cheers

I believe that is the vapor recovery system for the fuel vapors in the tank. My van (diesel ambo) just had the metal lines there, with nothing connected at either end - I ended up putting a rubber cap over the nipple coming out of the tank, just to close it up, who knows how long it had been open. My doner van (v-10) had it intact. It does not seem to need it. The end in the engine compartment was tied to the intake, I believe, and there was some system to pressurize the tank - I looked it up in the manual to try to identify the parts, so going off of memory here, but again, there does not seem to be any impact from having it gone

well I plan taking it out as its rusty and there are some holes in one of the pipes. just wanted to make sure what it is and or does. I dont mind capping it either. just done want to screw things up down the road or create more trouble.
will try and get pics. just did the brake booster so I will test drive it tomorrow and maybe take it by the dealer to ask them. always like showing up and see if htey can figure it out.

plus I might do a coolant flush as its not rated for Montana winters it needs it.
