Hey All,

Just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone in the Pop-Up Truck Camper Forum. I did a lot of lurking, and a little bit of posting, and you guys made it really easy to pick out my first truck! So here it is:

2015 F350 SRW 4x4
6.7L Power Stroke Diesel
3400+ lbs of Payload

This thing is awesome, now I just need to pick out a camper. I'm having a hard time deciding between Northstar and FWC. Question - is it a good idea to add airbags or will I not need them with a 1 ton truck?

That picture was taken in Twin Lakes, CO on our first road trip with the truck. Below is a picture from Independence Pass that day:

Thanks again, this forum is super helpful...I hope one day I can pay it forward.

Have pretty loaded Grandby in a 1 ton with a 6.5' bed. The truck sits level with the camper loaded without modes and that's what I was going for.

If you want more storage and creature comforts get the Northstar. If you want to hardcore offroad the FWC or the wider ATC would work out better.
Your F-350 won't feel the Northstar too much. The factory shocks on most trucks are junk and some Bilstein 5100's at least will help.

Yeah - I also feel that Northstar is more affordable...I found a nice used TC650 in my area for 11K. All the used FWC's I see for sale are close to 20K.

Both seem to have great reviews - I actually cannot find one complaint about Northstar pop-ups online...not one.

I try not to think about it...although I did get a good deal because it was a leftover.

Yes I have heard there's some good deals on the 2015's, lots of cash back and stuff. Apparently Ford is changing stuff for 2016? More HP and other goodies? Not too sure what's different.

2016's are the same, for the most part, I think- there is a redesign of the Super Duty in 2017 - There is a thread in the Domestic Full Size Forum about this.

Nice wheels. Not to throw off your campers list or anything. Check out the FWC flatbed camper. The more I think about it the more the flatbed popup makes sense. For me the truck and camper would be full time combo no need for the truck other than carting the escape pod around. I like the layout of the flat bed campers, and they seem to really get the weight in the right place for better handling vs the slide ins. Anyway worth a look. Not cheap but seems to take the camper to a whole different level regarding layout, and functonality.

You have a 1-ton, it would be a shame not to make use of it and get the bigger/comfier Northstar! Not like I'm biased...

very nice truck!

As you did not start your post stating the immediate need for a lift kit, bigger tires and new bumpers either brand camper should serve you well without capacity mods. Should you find the need to add the above mentioned adornment either brand will still serve you well without mods. I own an FWC personally, abet it an older one, and agree the Northstars are a bit more luxurious. The advantage to the FWC, weight aside, is the cult like following keeping resale values high if that is important to you. Congratulations with your purchase.

Best to you in your search...

nice truck, having come from a tc650 to a fhc hawk i must say that they both have good and bad points. the fwc is lower and about 200lbs.less but the roof is somewhat harder to raise also you get much more condensation in the fwc i think that with a one ton truck i would go with a northstar..
