goTenna over on Reddit

One of the goTenna people is doing an IAMA on Reddit that's rather interesting: https://www.reddit.com/r/Campingand...e_the_founders_of_gotenna_a_device_that_lets/

It's a device that connects to another goTenna via MURS, and each is interfaced by a smartphone. Sort of like a MURS-LAN. You can use text or voice, and obviously the range is limited to the usual power requirements of MURs. So it's sorta a private cell network over a small area in essence. Rather clever, if you had a need for that, although I'm trying to think of advantages over regular MURS radios (text? GPS? logging?). I would think incorporating some sort of APRS/texting into an existing MURS or FRS device woulda been better, but I'm no entrepeneur.

They are also offering a discount over there. But read the responses from the early adopters before you leap in.
