Am looking to a good GPS unit for wilderness use. I want to mount it in my jeep. am not looking for frills -- don't need to know where the nearest Starbucks is or the best 4 star restaurant. Want access to topo maps and ability to get in and out of the most remote areas I can find.

The 276C is a great product. I fyou're looking for a lower entry price, try the etrex vista or legend. I use a legend CX & it's amazing!

I use the etrex and etrex legend. Both are great, small and compact. The basic etrex does not do TOPO. The legend (blue), I think you can get TOPO for it but I am not sure. I just have roads on mine. The basic etrex (yellow) is extremely basic, but very effective. When we geocache I give the kids the yellow one and I use the blue. I think the yellow one is more accurate, but the blue seems to find more satellites.

Ditto on the 276c if you don't mind spending a bit more. I use a 276c on my dual sport bike and in my Jeep. After having a GPS III+ for a few years, I HAD to go with a big screen unit, and went to the 176, then to the 276c.

I've forgotten how many friends run the 276c as well, 4 or 5 I think.

I am also a 276c user. Love the beautiful bright screen and fast response time.

If you want to go cheaper, look at the eTrex series.
