Grounding Fuel Storage

I'm working on adding fuel storage my truck bed to carry 15 gallons (57l) of fuel.

I am concerned about the static electricity issue and the slight possibility of blowing crap up, unintentionally (intentionally blowing things up can be fun).

The bigger issues seem to revolve around plastic tanks on bedliners, followed by metal on bedliners..

Well, I'm going to be using metal tanks (probably 3 Jerry cans) that will be mounted into a cage type holder which itself will ride on a plywood surface and be bolted through the plywood and the metal truck bed.

Would the grounding be sufficient? Metal tanks to metal brackets to betal bolts to truck bed?

Thoughts?

Thanks

I connected an additional grounding strap to one of my mounting bolts. I attached the strap to the truck frame. Probably overkill but I too was concerned about static build up.

Nah, your fears are ungrounded. Military and off-road travelers have been using fuel containers since almost the first horseless carriages. Where are the reports of such events? And your touching the jug and the vehicle at the same time equalizes the potential anyway. And if you want to worry about something unlikely consider that a grounding strap works in both directions.
